Technicians work in hospitals, home infusion pharmacies, community pharmacies and other health care settings – working under the supervision of a registered pharmacist.
Program Description – 8 weeks
This comprehensive 50-hour course will prepare students to enter the pharmacy field and take the national Pharmacy Technician Certification Board Certified Pharmacy Technician Exam (CPhT). Course content includes medical terminology specific to the pharmacy, reading and interpreting prescriptions and defining drugs by generic and brand names. Students will learn dosage calculations, I.V. flow rates, drug compounding, dose conversions, dispensing of prescriptions, inventory control and billing and reimbursement.
National Pharmacy Technician certification (CPhT) can be obtained by achieving a passing score on the Pharmacy Technician Certification Exam offered by Pharmacy Technician Certification Board. To qualify you must be 18 years of age, possess a high school diploma (or GED) and have not been convicted of a felony. To apply for the test go to www.ptcb.org.
