EGCC Student Printy Policy F.A.Q.'s
Eastern Gateway Community College, in an effort to promote a greener environment, has implemented a network print auditing system. The system will track and maintain printer usage to help eliminate the waste of paper, ink and toner and reduce printer maintenance. The system will also help prevent un-authorized printing of copyrighted materials and lower costs for the college. College printing privileges are provided in support of Eastern Gateway Community College's educational mission.
I currently take classes at The Valley Center or one of the other remote sites. Does this policy apply to me ?
Not currently. This policy is ONLY in effect at the Jefferson County Campus. The Valley Center location will added later this year. Students taking classes at our other partner sites should adhere to that facilities policies.
Why did Eastern Gateway implement a printing policy ?
To reduce the waste of paper, ink, toner and maintenance costs incurred by excessive and unauthorized printing. By reducing the waste of resources we are also contributing to a more friendly and responsible environment.
How many free prints do I get ?
The college provides each current student with a $25 balance on a printing account at the beginning of each semester.
How many free prints does the college start me out with ?
For current registered students the college starts you out at the beginning of each semester with a printing account. The starting balance is $25.
How much does it cost me to print something ?
For every black and whit page you print, $0.05 cents will be deducted from your printing account. For every page you print in color, $0.15 cents will be deducted from your account.
Do my credits carry over to the next semester if I don't use them all ?
How do I check my account balance ?
After you successfully log in to a computer a "pop-up" will appear on your desktop showing the balance of your account.
Will I be notified when my print credit balance is low ?
Yes. When your balance reaches $2.50 or lower you will be notified with a pop up message when you log in to a computer on the Jefferson County Campus. An e-mail will also be sent to your student e-mail account.
What happens when there are not enough print credits in my account ?
The print audit system will not allow you to print. You will receive a pop-up on the lower right hand corner of your desktop screen stating "Not enough print credit".
What do I do when I need to add money to my account ?
On the Jefferson County Campus you can go to the cashiers window (room 2627) Monday - Friday, between the hours 8 a.m.-4 p.m. using cash, check, debit or credit card and you can add credit in $5 blocks. After 4 p.m. see the evening coordinator located in room 2631. Note: After hours you can only use cash or check.
Can I use my grants or other financial aid to add credit to my printing account ?
No. It is strictly "cash and carry".
What if something happens that the printer jams or the power goes out in the middle of my print job ? Will I loose money spent on the print job ?
No. You need to request a refund if this happens. You can submit a Help Desk ticket using the EGCC Technology Services Help Desk Portal at www.shelpdesk.egcc.edu or by visiting the Technology Services Department in room 2018 on the Jefferson County Campus 9 a.m.-4p.m. Monday-Friday.
