Resetting Your Gateway or Lab Computer Password
If you forget your student e-mail password or your computer lab login password, you must contact Technology Services at 800-682-6553 and select option 4 for Technology Support. You may also send a help request to firstname.lastname@example.org. Please put “Email Password” or “Computer Login Password” in the subject line, depending on which password needs reset.
For your security you may be asked questions to verify your identity.
Accessing Your Gateway Portal
- Go to www.egcc.edu and select “Gateway” from the upper right hand corner of the website.
- If this is your first time logging on to the site, use the credentials that were sent to your personal email.
- Next your will prompted to change your password. The password must be at least 8 characters.
- After you have successfully changed your password, you will be prompted to login again with your new password.
Gateway Student Links
Gateway is the student home for accessing all things at Eastern Gateway Community College.
You can use the Student Links area to access:
- My Email
- My Classes
- My Bookstore
- My Library
- Self Service (See the section below for the first time you login)
Logging on to Self-Service
- Once logged into Gateway, you can click the link for Self Service.
- The first time you go to Self Service, click the Log In button.
- You will be ask to fill out the information on the Verify an Account page.
- The System I.D. is the 9 digit number that is assigned to you by the college. (The dashes are not required.) The System I.D. is your Student I.D. Number and can be found on your billing statement and/or your acceptance letter from the college.
- In the Date of Birth field you must place the forward slashes between the month, date and year ex. ##/##/19##. When you are finished entering the information click on the Verify Account button located below the Date of Birth field.
- If you have filled out the information correctly, you will see a message telling you that your account has been created.
- You will now be logged into Self Service.
Using Computers on Campus
- At EGCC all current students will need a user name and password in order to access the computers on the Steubenville, OH campus and the computers in classrooms at our Valley Center location in Youngstown, OH.
- You will receive a letter from the college at least one week prior to the beginning of the semester with information about your student log in for EGCC lab computers.
- Your default user name will be the first letter of your first name followed by up to 17 letters of your last name followed by the last 4 digits of your student I.D. Note there are no spaces and your user name IS NOT case sensitive. (ex. JDoesmith99 and jdoesmith99 are the same thing)
- After entering your user name click into the password box and enter your password. If it is your first time logging in you will use your default password. Your default password is assigned to you by the college; this password is the first letter of your first name (capitalized) followed by (up to) the first 15 characters of your last name (the first letter of your last name is also capitalized) and then the last four digits of your social security number. ( example: JDoesmith1234). Remember, passwords ARE case sensitive!
- Once you have successfully logged in you will be prompted to change your password. This password must be a minimum of 8 characters. Try to make it unique yet something you can remember. Write your password down somewhere safe if you need to. You will use this password for the remainder of the semester.
- Once you have successfully changed your password you will see a message stating that your password has been successfully changed!
Remember not to share your account information with ANYONE!!

- Note that student lab computer accounts are deleted after the semester is over and reset for returning students only.
Printing at EGCC
Printing at EGCC is quite simple. After logging into one of our computers, a pop-up window will show how much printing credit you have. You are charged $0.05 for black/white and $0.35 for color. When you are ready to print your document, simply choose the JCC Printers (VC Printers for Youngstown) and your print job will be held in a queue until you go to a printer or copier to retrieve it. Once at the printer, simply use your ID badge to activate the printing of your job. If you go to a copier, use your ID badge to login to the copier and tell it to print the job that it is holding in queue.
WiFi at EGCC
WiFi is currently available on the Steubenville campus in and around the library, the student lounge, the training center, and the YMCA facilities. In the near future, WiFi will be install at all of our facilities, in all areas, both in Steubenville and Youngstown.
Office 365 is free for all EGCC students, faculty and staff. Visit www.office.com/getOffice365 and use your school email to get started.
EGCC SNAP Alerts – Emergency Notification
SNAP is Student Notification Alert Plan at Eastern Gateway Community College. Students and employees can sign up for this emergency notification system.

SNAP emergency notification system is designed to quickly send text or voice messages to mobile phones, land lines and email accounts when there is a campus situation YOU need to know about.
When you sign up, you can choose how you want to be notified if there is a college emergency such as a dangerous situation on campus. Signing up for text messages is probably a good choice for most users. But you may also wish to add a land line for receiving voice messages or a personal email account.
This system will also be used for letting you know if the campus is closed due to a snowstorm. You won’t even have to get out of bed to find out if classes are canceled!
EGCC SNAP Frequently Asked Questions
Why should I register?
The SNAP system is designed to save you critical time in a true emergency. It can also provide you convenience in the event of a campus closure. Additionally, if you are in a classroom when an emergency occurs, your cell phone may be a vital communications link for you.
Under what circumstances will I receive a SNAP alert?
SNAP alerts are used during emergencies that threaten life, safety, or property and/or severely impacts normal campus/college operations. No “spam” will be sent.
What are the optional weather alerts?
On the sign-up page, you may check a box to receive weather warnings (based on NOAA information) for severe thunderstorms and tornadoes. These messages are automatically generated each time a severe weather warning is issued by the National Weather Service. To reduce the number of messages, you will not receive warnings for “Alerts” or “Advisories.”
I don’t like texting. Should I still register my cell phone?
Yes. You can sign up to receive computer-generated voice messages on your cell phone. This is a good option for those who don’t like text messaging and those who want to avoid text messaging charges from their phone carrier.
How many messages will I receive?
Those signing up for emergency alerts will probably only receive two to four messages each year, based on the number of times the campus usually closes each year. However, if there is a more serious type of campus emergency, numerous messages may be sent in a single day to make sure everyone has the latest information.
Will the SNAP system work if there is a power failure?
All systems, including email and text message systems are subject to failure due to emergencies or disasters. While SNAP is a valuable addition to our existing emergency notification systems, we cannot guarantee that it will work in all emergencies.
I don’t want to receive messages anymore. How do I unsubscribe?
At any time, you can simply return to this web page and click the above link. Enter the contact information you wish to unsubscribe and confirm your selection. Additionally, you can reply STOP to a text message to unsubscribe.
How do I update my information if my contact information has changed?
The way the system is currently configured, you’ll just need to unsubscribe your old number and re-subscribe with your new information.
Is there a charge for registering to receive messages through SNAP?
This is a free service provided by Eastern Gateway Community College. However, your cell phone provider may charge you for receiving text messages (SMS). Check your service agreement for details. Service costs from your cellular provider are your responsibility.

Additionally, for those taking EGCC classes at Choffin Career and Technical Center, Columbiana County Career and Technical Center, Mahoning County Career and Technical Center, and Trumbull Career and Technical Center — your instructor will give you information about the cancelation procedure. If the career center hosting the college class is closed due to the weather, the college class is canceled.
