Graduation Checklist

Follow the checklist below to finish the final steps in completing your education at EGCC.

Step 1 Determine Your Eligibility for Graduation

Review your Academic Plan

You will need to review your Academic Plan located on your student portal to see if you have completed all course requirements.  If you would like to speak with an Academic Advisor to assist you, you can also do that!

Am I Eligible to Participate in the 2024 Commencement Ceremony?

Students who complete certificates or associate degree programs during the Summer 2024 semester are eligible to participate in the Commencement Ceremony on Saturday, August 10, 2024.

Step 2 Complete a Graduation Application

Completing the graduation application will:

  1. Initiate the review of your degree requirements to show you have officially completed a program.
  2. Allow you to participate in the commencement ceremony if you apply by the deadline of Monday, July 29, 2024.
  3. Help EGCC track the success of its programs and graduates.

How Do I Apply for Graduation?

  1. Register for your last semester of classes.
  2. After you have registered for your last semester of classes, complete the online graduation application above and survey for each program from which you are eligible to graduate.

Step 3 Check Your EGCC Email

Check your EGCC email often. All EGCC Graduation Emails will be sent to your student email address only.

Emails to watch for:

  • An email letting you know the status of your graduation application.

If you do not receive this email within 30 days of submitting your graduation application, contact the Graduation department at graduation@egcc.edu.

  • An email with information about obtaining your cap and gown.

Step 4 Obtain Your Cap & Gown

Note:
  • If a student wants to participate in the 2024 graduation convocation, students must order a cap and gown
  • If ordered through Herff Jones, caps and gowns will be shipped directly to the student
  • If requested through EGCC, students must pick caps and gowns up at the college on a designated pick-up day or pick them up while checking in for the commencement ceremony

You are not required to participate in the commencement ceremony to graduate from EGCC. However, we encourage all graduates to attend. The commencement ceremony is a time to celebrate all you’ve accomplished!

If you wish to participate in the commencement ceremony, you have two options:

  • You may purchase a cap, gown, and tassel using this link: https://colleges.herffjones.com/college/egcc/ Please make sure you use this vendor as they are the only EGCC commencement ceremony approved vendor. Students who wish to decorate their caps prior to the ceremony may want to order ahead of time. Additionally, students who are not attending the ceremony in person are welcome to order a regalia set to take photos at home.
  • Cap, gown, and tassel sets are also available at no cost to students through an alumni contribution. These sets will be available for pick up on a designated day one week prior to commencement, or students may pick them up when they check in for the ceremony. These regalia sets will not be shipped out. You may request a cap and gown when you complete the RSVP form for commencement.

A Note on Cap Decorations

Cap decorations are allowed; however, EGCC reserves the right to require you to remove any alterations deemed inappropriate by authorized college officials before you are permitted to participate in the commencement ceremony.

Examples of inappropriate embellishment include, but are not limited to:

  • Caps with vulgar language, inappropriate vocabulary, or photos/graphic images.
  • Caps with lights, balloons, and other items could pose a safety hazard.
  • Decorations that obstruct the view of people seated behind the graduate.

Designs with vertical structures or décor; elements used in the design must lay as flat to the cap as possible.

Step 5 Celebrate at the Commencement Ceremony!

Eastern Gateway will celebrate our final class of graduates on Saturday, August 10, 2024.

To participate in the commencement ceremony, graduates must fill out the graduation application above by the graduation application deadline (Monday, July 29, 2024) and either obtain their cap and gown through EGCC or purchase their cap and gown.

Step 6 Your Diploma & Honors Medallion

You should receive your diploma in the mail approximately 6-8 weeks after graduation. Please make sure your address is updated with the Registrar’s office. Diplomas will be mailed directly to the student.

Students who graduate with honors will be recognized with an Honors Medallion they can wear during the Commencement Ceremony. The Honors Medallion will be provided upon check-in. Graduating with honors is based on your cumulative GPA from your academic career at EGCC. All honors graduates will receive the same medallion.

Cum Laude 3.5-3.74

Magna Cum Laude 3.75-3.89

Summa Cum Laude 3.9-4.0

Students who do not participate in the Commencement Ceremony can order a diploma cover and/or Honors Medallion through the Youngstown Campus Bookstore.

Note: You will only pay for shipping.

Step 7 Transcripts

Once your last semester grades are available and posted to your transcript, the Dean’s offices will review graduates for final approval. Once final approval is given, your transcript will be updated with a graduated status showing your graduation date. We cannot update your transcript until the Dean gives the final approval. You will receive an email regarding this.

If you require a final transcript once your graduation status has been posted, you can order an official EGCC transcript to be sent by mail or electronically. Click here to order your transcript.
