What is Title IX?

Title IX is a part of the Educational Amendments of 1972 which prohibits sex-based discrimination at schools in the United States. Specifically, the law states: “No person in the United States shall, on the basis of sex, be excluded from participation in, or be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any educational program or activity receiving federal financial assistance.

Training on Title IX

The Title IX Office at EGCC, made up of the Coordinator and the Deputy Coordinator, have been trained on Title IX.
This training focused on total Title IX compliance and how to handle complaints, investigations, policies, and more.

This training focused on how an employee should respond when made aware of a potential occurrence of Title IX misconduct.

Title IX for Higher Education: Requirements and Responsibilities

This course is designed to provide faculty and staff who work in higher educational institutions with foundational knowledge of Title IX, a federal law prohibiting discrimination on the basis of sex in most higher educational institutions. In this course, faculty and staff will learn about their responsibility to report incidents of sexual discrimination, harassment, and retaliation. They will also learn how to stay compliant with Title IX requirements and the penalties associated with lack of compliance.

In addition, faculty and staff will review types of prohibited misconduct and learn to recognize potential examples.
